There’s a brief lull at the County Ground as Northamptonshire Men take a week’s break from their Championship campaign and Steelbacks Women gear up for T20 County Cup action on Sunday.

I’d like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone who has already signed up as members of The Steeler.

Your support as founder members means a lot and our growing community of subscribers is really important. It’s really exciting for me as someone who loves Northamptonshire cricket as much as you do.

I hope, of course, that The Steeler will continue to attract many more new subscribers and – as the 2026 season takes shape – that you all come to rely on the site to provide informed and intelligent commentary on how Northamptonshire’s teams are faring.

I hope that you’ve enjoyed the coverage of the season so far and the in-depth interviews with players and coaches.

Just some of the highlights include:

• Saif Zaib – county cricket’s leading run scorer in 2025 tells The Steeler he’s focussing on winning games for Northamptonshire, not media talk about England: https://thesteeler.counterpress.media/features/zaib-im-focusing-on-winning-games-for-northamptonshire-38214

• Calvin Harrison – once known for his leg-spin, the Northamptonshire all-rounder is now making just as much noise at the top of the order. He speaks exclusively to The Steeler about his cricketing journey: https://thesteeler.counterpress.media/features/exclusive-from-leg-spin-to-top-order-calvin-harrisons-rise-gathers-pace-42310

• Beth Ascott – in the first of a special series of features to mark the start of Steelbacks Women’s new season, I speak to Kettering’s Beth Ascott: https://thesteeler.counterpress.media/features/ascott-rises-to-the-challenge-in-northamptonshire-steelbacks-womens-new-era-42554

• Harry Conway – the fast bowler had a point to prove after a career setback in Australia and has made an immediate impact at Wantage Road. He tells The Steeler he’s hoping for a longer-term future at the club: https://thesteeler.counterpress.media/features/conways-county-charge-wickets-fire-and-a-point-to-prove-45578

• Justin Broad – the Northamptonshire allrounder speaks exclusively to The Steeler about the secrets behind his breakthrough year: https://thesteeler.counterpress.media/features/justin-broad-being-given-a-consistent-role-was-huge-for-me-37064

There is plenty more to read, with more to come, so do look out for all of that, and please let me know your feedback. Email jeremy.b@thesteeler.news and I will try to reply to all your comments and queries.

I remain committed to making The Steeler your go-to website for all things Northamptonshire cricket and it is worth stressing again that I am fully independent of Northamptonshire CCC – although I greatly value my relationships with everyone at the club and their ongoing support.

My heartfelt thanks to Peter Short for his excellent up-to-date photography which helps to present the site in the most professional and attractive fashion possible.

I am proud to be part of the rapidly-growing CounterPress Network of sports websites and grateful to founder and chief executive Sam Morshead and his team for all their support.

But a big thank you, most of all, to you for subscribing and for joining me on this journey.
