Zaib: I’m focusing on winning games for Northamptonshire, not media talk about England

Saif Zaib insists he is focusing on winning games for the county rather than media talk about possible England honours.

His aim ahead of the Championship opener against Lancashire tomorrow, has been to recreate the headspace that helped him produce 1,425 Championship runs last summer.

It was the highest aggregate in either division, which inevitably led to speculation about an England call-up, with Darren Lehmann publicly questioning the selectors’ decision when he was overlooked for the Lions’ tours.

Zaib though, is staying level-headed about the situation. He has had communication from the selectors about what he needs to do to press his case and will move up Northamptonshire’s batting order as a result, giving him more exposure against quicker bowlers.
