Northamptonshire’s Australian Test opener Nathan McSweeney faces a tight race across the world to be available for the opening Championship fixture against Lancashire on Friday.
McSweeney captained South Australia to historic back-to-back Sheffield Shield titles on Monday, but he had to keep celebrations short, ahead of an 11,000 mile flight to the U.K.
The Steeler understands that while the club remains hopeful that McSweeney will be available for Friday, the position is still 50/50. There are a number of factors at play, including possible delays to flights given the situation in the Gulf, and how he shapes up after such a long journey, having just played a five-day game.
Darren Lehmann is inclined to weigh the situation up closer to the time.
