Buckinghamshire all-rounder Billy Dodds and Northamptonshire Academy batter Aayush Baluja both struck half-centuries to propel Northern Titans to a comprehensive six-wicket victory over Southern Storm in the inaugural Gateway T20 League final on Thursday evening.
Chasing 165, Dodds, 19, struck 67 off 43 balls, his third 50 in the tournament, while Baluja made 52 off 38 deliveries after being dropped three times along the way. It completes a memorable week for the 16-year-old after he scored a century for Northamptonshire Second XI against Derbyshire at Repton School.
Despite missing their player/mentors Josh Cobb and Greg Smith, Dodds and Baluja stepped up admirably to post 102 in 11 overs for the second wicket before Northampton Saints CC’s Oli Chamberlain hit the winning runs with two full overs to spare.
