Steelbacks’ One Day Cup campaign ends with dramatic defeat at Cheltenham

Northamptonshire’s final hopes of securing a quarter-final spot in this year’s Metro Bank One Day Cup ended in a dramatic defeat to Gloucestershire amid the picturesque surroundings of Cheltenham College today.
Needing to win this final group-stage game, and for other results to go their way, the Steelbacks saw the Glo’sters clinch victory by three wickets with just four balls to spare.
In any event, Lancashire's victory over Somerset at Taunton meant Northamptonshire's qualification hopes would have ended regardless of the result at Cheltenham.
The Steelbacks posted 308 batting first but were bowled out with 20 balls of their innings remaining, something which again frustrated head coach Darren Lehmann. He was, however, keen to highlight some of the contributions made by young players throughout the tournament.
