Northamptonshire Steelbacks beat Somerset by 17 runs in an absolute thriller of a Vitality Blast semi-final at Edgbaston to book themselves a place in this evening’s final.
The Steelbacks proved they could beat the West Country side when it mattered after two defeats in the group stages, holding their nerve after posting a below-par target.
With Somerset chasing just 144, the Steelbacks had the ideal start with ball. A fired-up David Willey took two wickets, while Ben Sanderson picked up another, as three Somerset batters fell in the first three overs to leave them reeling on 12 for three.
Will Smeed though smoked 28 runs off Luke Procter’s first over including two sixes and four fours as Somerset finished the powerplay in the ascendancy on 52 for three.
