Northamptonshire’s top three batters all hit centuries as they battered Kent on day one of their Rothesay County Championship Division Two match at Canterbury, posting a mammoth 409 for one.

Openers Ricardo Vasconcelos and Luke Procter hit 127 and 131 not out respectively, as part of a record-breaking stand of 224 for the visitors against Kent - and when the partnership was finally broken, Calvin Harrison blazed an unbeaten 124, his second consecutive century against the Spitfires.

Afterwards Vasconcelos said it was a sign of the attacking brand of cricket the club wanted to play.

“We just looked to go out there and play our brand of cricket. We spoke about how we’re quite a good team when we’re on the back foot and fighting back into games, but we want to get better at driving games from the start.
