Finedon Dolben Cricket Club provided a picturesque setting for Steelbacks Women’s third Metro Bank One Day Cup fixture on Sunday. But a performance which head coach David Ripley described as “disappointing” brought their unbeaten start to the season to an end.
It came in the shape of a heavy 76-run defeat to Sussex Sharks as the Steelbacks were bowled out for 192 in the 42nd over of the chase, in pursuit of an above par 269 to win.
Ella Phillips led the way with three wickets as the Steelbacks contained the visitors to just 37 for two in the powerplay. But they kept wickets in hand, allowing them to plunder 84 runs in the final 10 overs.
