May Drinkell hit her first half-century for Northamptonshire to steer the Steelbacks to a five-wicket victory over Worcestershire which booked them a semi-final spot in this year’s Metro Bank One Day Cup.

Amelia Kemp (49) and Chloe Hill (37) laid the foundations with a 104-run opening partnership before Michaela Kirk added 28. But when two wickets fell in quick succession, Drinkell anchored the innings with a perfectly paced unbeaten 51 off 41 balls, while Gemma Marriott went on the offensive with 29 off 17 balls.

Drinkell brought up victory and her half-century with a pull shot for four as the Steelbacks won with 12 overs to spare. That late acceleration from Marriott and Drinkell ensured Northamptonshire reached their target quickly enough to claim a valuable bonus point.
