Ben Sanderson’s golden run with the ball in the Rothesay County Championship continued with his fourth five-wicket haul of the season, as Northamptonshire ran through the Gloucestershire batting line-up on day one at Bristol.

Although Sanderson later modestly called it his “worst five-fer” of the year in terms of how his wickets fell, he exploited bowler-friendly conditions and a hybrid pitch to return figures of 5-47 in 19 overs. It ensured the home side were summarily dismissed for 154 inside 52 overs after losing the toss.
