George Bartlett admitted to feeling gutted after his spirited rearguard innings proved in vain as Northamptonshire were soundly beaten by Derbyshire late on day four of this Rothesay County Championship match in Derby.

Bartlett, who defied Lancashire for two sessions to secure a draw in the opening game of the season, made an unbeaten 65 from 175 balls today. Nathan McSweeney also batted for nearly three-and-a-half hours for 62 but it was not enough to deny Derbyshire a 23-point haul while Northamptonshire left with only a single point, bringing their unbeaten run to an end.
