“It’s probably one of my better spells!” said Ben Sanderson this evening, proving himself a master of the understatement.
The veteran Northamptonshire seamer had just engineered a dramatic, comprehensive Northamptonshire innings victory with a remarkable six wickets in the space of just 29 balls.
It was one of the most complete performances of Sanderson’s 11 seasons with the county. But, more importantly for the ultimate team man, was the result.
Sanderson finished with figures of 7-31 and career-best match figures of 11-109 as Worcestershire were skittled for just 114 late on day three. This earned the Steelbacks their first Championship win of the season and took them to the top of the Division Two table overnight.
