Ricardo Vasconcelos lit up Edgbaston with a match-winning knock in Northamptonshire’s Vitality Blast triumph last month. But the self-declared red-ball purist is ‘chomping at the bit’ to get back into Championship action today with promotion on the line.
The county start today’s clash with Lancashire in third place in a tightly packed Division Two table on 115 points, with Kent just two points above them in second place. They face both Kent and leaders Durham (149 points) at home in the following two rounds, but Vasconcelos believes they are more than capable of mounting a serious promotion challenge.
