Men’s head coach Darren Lehmann issued Northamptonshire’s batters with a rallying call this season. The ask was simple: to score more centuries.
It’s fair to say they have delivered. The 16 individual County Championship centuries scored so far in 2026 are the most since the 20 made by David Sales’ team in 2006. It’s been a clear factor in their promotion drive.
But the century tally only tells part of the story. It’s meant a different mindset: being ruthless, making the most of promising starts and not leaving the job for the next player in. But it’s also been about being prepared to risk your wicket when the time comes to up the rate if that’s what the team requires.
