Amelia Kemp underlined her emergence as one of the leading talents in women’s Tier 2 cricket in the T20 County Cup quarter-final on Sunday.
While her career-best 88 not out was not enough to prevent the Steelbacks exiting the competition after an early batting collapse against Tier 1 Essex, the innings was a watershed moment, a real coming-of-age performance.
The significance lay not just in the runs and the way she scored them, but in the maturity and composure she showed against Tier 1 opposition with the Steelbacks’ innings in tatters at 19 for five.
Surveying the damage, with the Steelbacks’ dreams of an underdog victory hanging by the thinnest of threads, she set about simply rebuilding, taking the full responsibility on her shoulders.
