Zaib savours ‘special’ Lord’s century but rues losing cause

For Saif Zaib, scoring a century on his first appearance at Lord’s was a special moment, but the Northamptonshire batter admits it would have meant more in a winning cause.
Zaib scored 110 (169 balls) before becoming the last wicket to fall this morning as Middlesex bowled out Northants for 285 in their second innings. It set the hosts 134 to win, a target they reached with seven wickets to spare.
Defeat put an end to Northamptonshire’s already slim chances of promotion from Division Two of the Championship.
Speaking at the close of play, Zaib said: “It’s a disappointing end to our season, we’ve played good cricket throughout the whole year and a few missed chances in different games might have cost us.
