Darren Lehmann says Ricardo Vasconcelos is knocking on the England selectors’ door, describing the Northants opener as one of the finest players of fast bowling he’s seen in the county game.
The men’s head coach hailed Vasconcelos’ 132 in the run chase against Derbyshire in a match cut agonisingly short by the umpires’ decision to take the players from the field for bad light.
It was the left-hander’s sixth century of the season, the most he has scored in a single summer, and saw him pass 1,000 runs for the first time in his career. That tally includes a season-high of 187 against Division Two champions Durham at Chester-le-Street in June.
