Steelbacks Women’s hopes of reaching next weekend’s Metro Bank One Day Cup final were dashed by a batting collapse against Middlesex at Radlett. The defeat, by 29 runs, sees the Steelbacks exit the competition at the semi-final stage for the second year running.

Thanks to a solid foundation from Chloe Hill (46) and Amelia Kemp (27), the Steelbacks looked well placed at 83 for one chasing a DLS-adjusted target of 165.

But with 25 overs still in hand, they proceeded to lose their last nine wickets for 52 in 13 overs, a disappointing finish to an excellent List A campaign.

Gemma Marriott was left stranded on 26 not out as the visitors were bowled out for 135 with 12.1 overs to go. Middlesex skipper, off-spinner Saskia Horley did most of the damage in a devastating spell, finishing with figures of four for 27.
