Steelbacks fail to kick on again as Surrey claim six-wicket victory

Nathan McSweeney and George Bartlett posted half-centuries for the third game running in Northamptonshire’s One Day Cup campaign but it was not enough to stop the Steelbacks sliding to a six-wicket defeat to Surrey at Guildford.
The pair put on 97 in 18 overs for the fourth wicket but both fell in a pivotal 39th over of the innings, Bartlett for 62 and McSweeney for 64. It left Northamptonshire on 178 for five instead of being in a position to push hard for a total close to 300. An excellent collective Surrey bowling performance restricted the visitors to 254 for eight, continuing a similar pattern to the Kent game on Friday when the Steelbacks fell away in the final overs.
