Northamptonshire will start the final day of their County Championship match against Derbyshire at Wantage Road today (Friday) needing one of the highest run chases in the club’s history to regain second place in the Division Two table.
With promotion rivals Kent completing a three-day victory over Lancashire, Northants finally bowled out Derbyshire for 286 after a series of frustrating lower-order partnerships.
It left the hosts with a steep target of 349, which would represent the fifth-highest successful run chase in the club's first-class history.
Ricardo Vasconcelos and Luke Procter safely steered them to 37 without loss at stumps, meaning they need a further 312 runs on the final day.
