Darren Lehmann has named a 13-man squad as Northamptonshire open their 2026 Championship campaign tomorrow against a Lancashire side captained by England legend Jimmy Anderson.
South Australia’s Sheffield Shield winning captain Nathan McSweeney arrived in the country yesterday and is available for selection and is lined up to make his Northamptonshire debut as Luke Procter’s deputy. Lehmann has inked McSweeney in at four with Saif Zaib moving up one place in the order from six to five.
Talking about McSweeney this afternoon, Lehmann said: “He's keen as mustard to play and that sort of shows what he's like as a human being. I mean, 48 hours off a flight and wanting to play in a big game, first game for us. So, I’m really pleased.”
New signing Louis Kimber is also named in the squad, although Justin Broad misses out with a slight back issue sustained during the county’s preseason tour to South Africa. The club insists though, the medical staff are being cautious and hope the all-rounder will be available for selection in the next two weeks.
