Lewis McManus and Ben Sanderson staged a late recovery with a flurry of boundaries to clinch two precious batting bonus points at the end of an attritional, topsy-turvy second day of Northamptonshire’s Rothesay County Championship match against Derbyshire.
The hosts had slumped to 243 for eight after tea when Sanderson (27) joined McManus in a counterattack, adding 48 for the ninth wicket inside six overs. McManus was finally dismissed for 53 after passing 4,000 first-class runs, as Northamptonshire were bowled out for 310, trailing by 62 runs.
New Zealand seamer Brett Randell led the charge with the ball for Derbyshire, taking three wickets for 48 after Ricardo Vasconcelos and Luke Procter had laid a solid foundation with an opening partnership of 97.
