David Willey says the Steelbacks’ triumph at Vitality Blast Finals Day was reward for four years of hard work creating a new culture.
That journey has been about building resilience and putting the team first, qualities that set the side on the path to back-to-back Finals Day appearances and a first piece of silverware in a decade.
That resilience, and the ability to fight back when things are not going their way, were qualities the Steelbacks showed in spades at Edgbaston. First, they defended a low score to win their semi-final against Somerset before closing out a thrilling final against Hampshire.
