If there’s one innings that made Louis Kimber’s reputation as an explosive hitter, it was the remarkable 243 he made from just 127 balls during a run chase at Hove in 2024.
It earned him global headlines as County Championship records tumbled. Putting England bowler Ollie Robinson to the sword, he achieved the most runs in a single over and recorded the fastest double century, while his 21 sixes broke Ben Stokes’ previous best (17).
While ultimately in a losing cause, it was the kind of swashbuckling innings that attracted Darren Lehmann’s attention.
The coach identified Kimber as a man who could bring some ‘punch’ to Northamptonshire’s middle order and put pressure back on bowlers – a role he fulfilled with a counter-attacking 31 against Cardiff UCCE this weekend.
